Founded in 1996, Weather Metrics first developed the TurfWatch.Net weather monitoring system for the golf and turfgrass industries. Each system collected data such as evapotranspiration, heating/cooling degree days, wet bulb, dew point and other information required for superior turfgrass and golf course management.
We then applied our weather collection instrumentation to the broadcast industry. Weather Metrics merged information from weather monitoring stations and centrally archived data into our CityWeather.Net system, enabling us to become the first in the industry to broadcast live weather data from multiple locations.
A Weather Broadcasting Pioneer
Weather Metrics has been a pioneer in the broadcast industry:
- First to send real-time, 100% digital images for on-air display
- First to send live — not recorded — video over a standard DSL line for on-air display
- Developed innovative “store & forward” technology for video for the broadcast industry
- Developed “on demand time-lapse” technology, storing 48 hours of time-lapse imagery in the camera for instant recall for on-air display
- Created superior “digital channel in a box” technology for the digital tier and cable operators
- Created and maintains the longest running weather channel system designed for the digital tier
